After protesters upend monuments, an American city reckons with its symbols of westward expansion. The unfolding fate of the sculptures pits artists and Indigenous activists against preservationists in Portland, Ore., all set in a nation divided over who belongs on pedestals.

Monumental, a feature-length documentary in production in 2025 and 2026, is directed by Erika Bolstad and produced by Oregon Media Lab.
